Legendary Tribute: An Entertaining Celebration

Randy York’s N-Sider - Whatever vision you might have regarding Tom Osborne’s last act, curtain call or swan song, perish the thought right now. The Saturday Night Live performance on March 9, 2013, inside Omaha’s CenturyLink Center, will not indulge anyone buying a ticket with your traditional “Thank You Tom” Tribute.

No sir and no ma’am. This Tribute to Tom Night of Legends Gala “is not going to be a retirement dinner. It’s going to be one big celebration with two hours of fast-moving entertainment,” said Paul Meyers, Nebraska’s associate athletic director for the Huskers Athletic Fund.

Story Spotlight:
Deadline approaching for Baseball and Softball events

The deadlines are soon approaching for the main annual fundraisers for Softball’s On Deck Circle booster club and Baseball’s Home Run Club.

The On Deck Circle will be hosting its annual Soup Supper on Thursday, Jan. 31. The event begins at 5:30 with time to view silent and live auction items, including items autographed by former Husker coach and athletic director Tom Osborne, one-of-a-kind on-field experiences with the softball staff, and more. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., with a program to follow. Click here for more information or to register online. Registrations are due by Friday, Jan. 25.

The next day, on Friday, Feb. 1, the Home Run Club will host its annual banquet. The event also begins at 5:30 p.m. with time to view silent and live auction items, including a trip to watch the Huskers take on Texas in Austin, packages from former Huskers currently in the major league, experiences with Head Coach Darin Erstad, and more. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., with a program to follow featuring a keynote address from current Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia.
